Know your plant
The Zamioculcas zamiifolia, popularly known as the ZZ Plant, is renowned for its elegant glossy foliage. It features an advanced underground rhizome system. These potato-like structures efficiently store water, allowing the plant to withstand extended periods of neglect and dry soil.
Learn about planter
'Cavender' is a self-watering planter. It has 3 parts. A pot, a floater and a container to store water. Pot has pits filled with LECA balls which will regulate the flow of water to soil. Floater helps you to identify water level easily through the window in container. Not to worry if there is no floater in your planter
Watering
Because the rhizomes store moisture so effectively, the ZZ plant is highly sensitive to overwatering. Allow the potting medium to dry out completely between waterings. When in doubt, it is safer to underwater than to overwater. Please read Do’s & Don’ts for the safety and long health of your plant
Lighting
When it comes to lighting, ZZ got versatile adaptation. It adapts seamlessly across a wide spectrum of environments, growing reliably in both low-light corners and bright, indirect lighting. Do’s and Don’ts
Don’t Do This
The primary cause of decline in ZZ Plants is overwatering. Continuous moisture deprives the roots of oxygen, leading to irreversible root rot. Always empty any standing water after watering. Allowing the base of the grow pot to sit in stagnant water guarantees the death of plant from root rot
Don’t Do This
Use Self-Watering or Store water in outer pot, only when you are not able to water for more than 20 days. In that case, add water to outer pot until the white floater is seen at top of the transparent window. Water it after you return to it in peace. Do this only once in two months, doing this often will lead to root rot
Do This
On regular days, remove the inner pot, take it to a sink and Water the soil directly. Add water until the excess water drains out of the inner pot. Then place it back in empty outer pot. Give a gap of minimum 5 days between waterings in summers/very bright sunlight. Increase gap in winters/low sunlight conditions
Placement for Sunlight
The ZZ Plant is remarkably versatile and adapts beautifully across the entire lighting spectrum shown in green coloured zones in the diagram. For optimal, vibrant growth, place your plant in bright, indirect sunlight—such as near an east-facing window or a few feet away from a sunny pane. However, its true specialty lies in its incredible tolerance for low-light and dark indoor areas, making it perfect for windowless offices, deep hallways, or shaded corners where other plants struggle. While it will survive almost anywhere indoors, please note that growth will slow down significantly in lower light conditions. The only critical rule: Keep it entirely out of harsh, direct sunlight, as intense rays will scorch and bleach its glossy leaves
